The Secret Sauce of Delivering Scrum Projects One successful way to deliver a project that reduces risk, increases customer satisfaction, and provides a reliable ROI is through Scrum, one of the most popular Agile frameworks of building products, generally software, iteratively. But, what elements shall we consider when delivering Scrum projects so it can be done consistently and successfully? Read more...

Agile Forecasting: Asking Why and Discovering What is Behind the When A product owner or development team will often be asked for an estimate or a forecast for a product, a feature, an iteration, or a story. But when you go to a team member and ask them it is not uncommon for the color to drain from their face, twitching to start, and their pulse to race. Past experience says that the next words they speak will haunt them for the foreseeable future, maybe even for the rest of their career. It is only a rough estimate you say to reassure them, but they just know you have other plans and the fate of mankind lies in the balance. Or so it seems. Read more...

*** Quote of the Month ***

Have you ever made a decision, implemented the decision, and then been confronted with a raft of questions: “What were you thinking?”, “Why did you not do that?”, or “Why did you do it that way?” How can you avoid this disconnect? Bring the stakeholders together and build the value model as a team. Agree to the purpose and brainstorm the considerations. Put the considerations in priority order. Have the team discuss the costs and benefits. Don’t look for one number.

The bigger the decision, the more likely that people will view and value the purpose, considerations, and associated costs and benefits differently. Listen to the conversation as you build the model. Do you have major discrepancies in how people think? Does marketing feel one idea or initiative has high value, while finance think just the opposite? Expand the conversation to understand the differences and thinking that brought people to their conclusions.

As you sort through the discrepancies, look for common ground in your conversations, particularly in regard to the critical decisions points:
* What do we do?
* When do we do it?
* Should we continue doing it?

Kanban Workbook

Based on a simple example deliberately chosen outside the software development world to avoid jargon, Sam Laing and Karen Greaves have written a book that provides both a definition of the concepts and an implementation path for Kanban.
